How to journal futures trades

Journal a futures trade from the fill, not from memory. Export the file the platform already has, then check the day against the statement.

1. Export the fills

Tradovate: Orders, and Performance if you have it. NinjaTrader 8: the Executions grid. Rithmic: R|Trader Order History, filled or completed rows. TopstepX: the trades CSV, or the optional read-only key. Sierra Chart: Trade Activity, rows whose type is Fill. Interactive Brokers: a Flex futures query. Each integration page has the steps.

2. Put fees in before you trust the net

If the file has a commission column, that number wins. If it does not, choose the fee preset on the account. The preview shows skipped rows. Nothing is stored until you confirm, and a confirmed batch can be undone.

3. Tie the session

Import the statement or the performance file on Reconcile. A tied day matches to the cent. An open day names the gap: missing fee, partial fill, or no statement at all. Write the note on the trade after you can see the fills in order.

Questions

Do I need a prop firm to journal?

No. A personal Tradovate or Interactive Brokers futures account uses the same import. The prop pages are only for rule numbers.

What if my platform is not listed?

Try the file. If the columns are not recognized, the column mapper opens and the format stays Beta until we have checked a real export.

Start the 7-day trial. No card.

The guides are the bookkeeping. The journal is where a session gets tied.
