Journal

Verified Oct 27, 2026 on Topstep’s own pages

Topstep runs one Trading Combine with a choice at checkout: the daily loss limit on or off. The Maximum Loss Limit is the line that ends the account. It trails your end-of-day balance, never moves down, and locks once it reaches the starting balance.

How the end-of-day drawdown moves on a 50K

Illustrative example using the published $2,000 maximum loss: a 50K evaluation opens at $50,000 with the floor at $48,000. Close day one at $50,800 and the floor moves to $48,800 for the next session.

On day two the balance runs to $51,200, gives it back, and closes at $50,900. The floor moves only to $48,900, because the end-of-day balance is what it trails. The intraday high you gave back does not move it. Check the firm’s page for whether the floor is also monitored in real time during the session.

Topstep payouts: what has to line up

With a 40% consistency rule, your largest day can be at most 40% of the profit counted for the payout. A $600 best day needs at least $1,500 of total profit before it passes. Bank one big day early and the following days have to carry the rest.

A payout request has to clear eligibility (standard: 5 winning days of $150+ | Consistency: 3 traded days at <= 40%), a $125 minimum, a cap (50% of balance up to $2,000 Std / $3,000 Cons). The split is 90%. Track each condition separately; the one you miss is usually the one you were not counting.

What traders get caught on

  • A 50K Combine starts at $50,000 with the Maximum Loss Limit at $48,000. Make $500 on day one and the limit trails up to $48,500. (source: help.topstep.com)
  • A 50K Express Funded Account starts at $0, not $50,000. The limit starts at -$2,000 and trails upward from there. (source: help.topstep.com)
  • The Standard path pays after 5 winning days of $150+. The Consistency path needs 3 days with at least 1 trade per day, and your largest day cannot exceed 40% of total net profit. (source: help.topstep.com)
  • Payout days lock in at 4:00 PM CT. Payouts are 90/10, so you keep 90%, with a $125 minimum. (source: help.topstep.com)

Journaling a Topstep account

Import the fills from your platform’s export and Tiedbook ties each session to the statement. Then it draws the Topstep floor, the daily limit and the best-day share on your own trades, so you see the room left before the next order, not after the account email.

The firm’s figures are labeled as the firm’s. If they and your dashboard disagree, the dashboard is right. Use the trailing drawdown calculator and the consistency calculator to test a plan first, or read how a prop firm trading journal handles several accounts.
